Fuji music star and Olori Omooba of Ijebuland, Wasiu Ayinde, also known as KWAM 1, has raised concerns that the Fusengbuwa Ruling House is trying to exclude him from the process to choose the next Awujale of Ijebuland.
KWAM 1 said the ruling house, which is next to produce the new Awujale, is taking actions that go against Ogun State’s chieftaincy laws and declarations. He made this claim in a letter sent to Governor Dapo Abiodun through his lawyer. KWAM 1 is from the Fidipote Ruling House.
According to him, the Fusengbuwa Ruling House is sidelining him in the ongoing selection process. The ruling house is set to resume the nomination process in Ijebu Ode after it was earlier stopped.
Several princes have shown interest in becoming the next Awujale, following the death of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona. The late monarch died at the age of 91 on July 13, 2025, after ruling for 65 years.
In a letter dated January 8, 2026, KWAM 1’s lawyer, Dr. Wahab Shittu (SAN), said the musician was unfairly excluded. Earlier, KWAM 1 had gone to court to stop the selection process, but the court refused his request. He later withdrew the case without explaining why.
KWAM 1 said that the Ijebu Ode Local Government approved the Fusengbuwa Ruling House to begin the nomination process on January 6, 2026, and finish it within 14 days. However, he was surprised when the family’s spokesperson, Prince Adeleye Ademuyiwa, announced that candidates should collect nomination forms and appear before a screening committee.
He said the nomination was fixed for Monday, January 12, 2026, which he believes goes against the law. According to the letter, these steps deny members of the ruling house their right to freely take part in nominating candidates.
KWAM 1 stated that all members of the ruling house have the right to attend meetings and nominate candidates of their choice. He warned that no small group should take over this process.
He therefore appealed to Governor Abiodun to intervene quickly to ensure the process is fair, lawful, and that his rights are protected.
