The All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward 4 in Sagamu, Ogun State, has clarified why it suspended the Senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel. According to the ward leadership, the action followed the senator’s repeated refusal to appear before a panel investigating allegations of anti-party activities.
Speaking at a press conference in Sabo, Sagamu, the Ward Secretary, Oluwole Aduroja representing the 19-member executive committee said the clarification became necessary after a statement issued by MJS Partners on behalf of Senator Daniel regarding a 17 November letter from the party’s National Secretariat.
Mr. Aduroja, flanked by Ward Chairman Adebayo Ismail, explained that the decision to suspend Senator Daniel was unanimous. He said the senator ignored several invitations to defend himself against petitions accusing him of working against the party’s interest during the last general elections.
According to him, Senator Daniel “openly defied the party and took actions that undermined the APC and its candidates in Ogun State.” He added that after the elections, the senator also attempted to interfere with the proceedings of the Election Petition Tribunal in ways considered hostile to the party.
Addressing the position of APC National Secretary Senator Surajudeen Bashiru, Mr. Aduroja insisted that the APC Constitution empowers executive committees at all levels ward, local government, state, zonal, and national to initiate disciplinary actions against members. He emphasized that while the National Working Committee (NWC) can also suspend members under Article 21(5)(vii), this does not override the disciplinary powers of other executive committees.
He noted that disciplinary decisions from these committees are only subject to appeal under Article 21(4), not to review or approval by the NWC.
Mr. Aduroja reaffirmed Ward 4’s commitment to discipline and due process, stressing that the suspension of Senator Gbenga Daniel “remains fully in effect.”
