Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Ogun East Senatorial District have declared their full support for Senator Gbenga Daniel, describing his reported suspension from the party as fake, baseless, and unconstitutional.
The leaders, who represent all 103 wards in the district’s nine local government areas, explained that the suspension was said to have come from Ward 4, while Daniel actually belongs to Ward 12.
In August 2025, a Facebook post claimed that the Ogun State APC Executive Committee had approved a suspension from Ward 4, based on a report by a supposed investigation panel accusing Daniel of anti-party activities.
Last Wednesday, Lekan Adeniran, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Dapo Abiodun, said the suspension was still valid. He warned that any political dealings with Daniel as a party member would not be recognized.
Adeniran also said that a letter, dated October 3, 2025, and signed by State Chairman Yemi Sanusi and State Secretary Tella Aderibigbe, had informed the APC National Chairman of Daniel’s suspension, which was said to have taken effect on August 19, 2025.
However, at a press conference held in Sagamu on Tuesday, titled “The State of APC in Ogun State,” the Ogun East leaders rejected the claim, calling it politically motivated and linked to the 2027 elections and the Ogun East APC senatorial ticket.
Speaking at the event, Daniel’s media aide, Steve Oliyide, dismissed the suspension reports as false. He said the senator had received no official notice of wrongdoing, no allegations, no invitation to face any panel, and no suspension letter.
Oliyide said, “We are talking about a former governor and a serving senator. How can the governor’s spokesperson, who is not a party officer and has personal interest in the matter, speak on behalf of the APC in Ogun State? The party has a chairman, secretary, and other elected officials. This clearly shows the announcement cannot be taken seriously.”
He added, “This is all about 2027 politics and who will get the APC ticket for Ogun East.”
Also speaking, Prof. Yemi Oke (SAN), counsel to the group, said they had written to the APC Ogun State chapter requesting official documents about the alleged suspension. He asked the party to provide copies of any petitions from Ward 4 or Ward 12 and any signed suspension letters involving Senator Daniel.

Babatunde Adesanya, Josephine Makanjuola, Bankole Osisanya, Wole Olubena, Abiodun Adesanya, Dele Osifade, and Ganiyat Busari, among others.
