A tragic accident happened early Sunday morning when a vehicle carrying six people fell into the Ososa River along the Ijebu-Ode–Sagamu Expressway. Four people died in the crash.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the accident happened around midnight. Emergency teams were alerted shortly after.
When rescue workers arrived, they found four adult men dead. Their identities were not known at the time of the report.
Akinbiyi said investigations suggest the driver was speeding and lost control before the vehicle, a white Toyota Hilux, plunged into the river.
Officials from TRACE, the police, and the Federal Road Safety Corps worked together at the scene. The bodies were taken to the morgue at the General Hospital in Ijebu-Ode. The road was later cleared to prevent more accidents.
In recent weeks, there have been several fatal road accidents.
Last Friday, a truck driver’s assistant died in Ikorodu, Lagos, after trying to place a wooden plank under a moving truck that had brake failure.
Also, on November 8, two students of the Lagos State University of Science and Technology were killed when a sand-filled tipper lost its brakes. Seven others were injured in that crash.
