Security Operatives Arrest Woman For Throwing Daughter In A River

On Sunday, the Ogun State Police Command reported the arrest of 30-year-old Olubunmi Ajayi for attempting to drown her five-month-old baby, Imole Anifowose, in the RSS River in Sagamu. Olusola Sonaya, present at the river, played a crucial role in rescuing the baby after her mother tossed her into the water, as stated by the spokesperson for the state police command, SP Omolola Odutola, in a statement sent to journalists on Monday.

The infant was swiftly taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, for immediate medical attention. At the time of the statement, the baby was reported to be in stable condition.

The statement conveyed, “A five months old baby, one Imole Anifowose, is now in stable condition after one Olusola Sonaya “m” of RSS River Sagamu, averted a premeditated drowning by the mother.”

The incident, characterized as an attempted murder, occurred on January 21, 2024, around 17:30 hrs. A humanitarian witnessed Oluwabunmi Ajayi dropping her child into the river and promptly intervened, rescuing the baby from drowning.

Following the rescue, the baby was urgently taken to OOUTH for medical examination and treatment, where it was confirmed that the child survived the traumatic experience. The mother, Olubunmi Ajayi, has been apprehended and is currently under observation to assess her mental health. Efforts are underway to contact her relatives or husband to facilitate appropriate welfare for the baby in the hospital.
