A newlywed groom, Abubakar Abdulkarim, popularly known as Dan Gaske, has allegedly been stabbed to death by his wife just three days after their wedding in Jibia town, Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The couple married on Thursday, November 18, 2025, but the marriage ended in tragedy on Sunday afternoon when the incident reportedly occurred.
According to Daily Trust, the wife allegedly attacked Abdulkarim with a knife while he was asleep, inflicting a fatal cut on his neck.
A relative, Aminu Danladi, said he and other family members spent the morning with the groom, planning a family visit scheduled for later that day. Abdulkarim later returned home to prepare, only for the family to receive news that he had been found dead in his house.
Danladi dismissed rumours that the marriage was forced, noting that the couple had maintained good relations before the wedding.
Sources said the wife—identified as Zainab Muhammad, a woman in her 20s from Katsina metropolis—was introduced to the groom by his nephew, her former classmate at Government Girls Secondary School, Jibia. She was reportedly previously married and divorced, a detail the groom’s family was allegedly unaware of.
Residents believe the killing occurred between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. Shortly after, Zainab was said to have appeared confused and went to a neighbour’s home asking for food. Her unusual behaviour raised suspicion among women in the community, who followed her back home and discovered the groom’s lifeless body. Security operatives were immediately alerted.
Police have confirmed the incident, saying an investigation is underway.
Katsina State Police spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, said in a statement on Monday:
“On November 23, 2025, at about 1:30 p.m., a report was received that a newly wedded groom was found motionless in a pool of blood in his residence at Tashar Buja, Jibia. Detectives arrived at the scene and found the victim with a deep cut to the neck. He was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, assured the public of a thorough investigation and urged anyone with useful information to assist the police.
