The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) has cautioned residents against blocking access roads for social events as the festive season approaches.
TRACE spokesperson Babatunde Akinbiyi issued the warning in a statement on Wednesday on behalf of the agency’s Acting Commander, Elias Omonayajo.
Akinbiyi said the advisory became necessary following repeated incidents in which individuals and groups obstruct roads during celebrations, causing avoidable traffic congestion.
“This warning became necessary due to the outright disregard for other road users by some individuals, community associations, street revellers, and organisers of religious or social events,” he said. “Such actions often lead to unwanted and gruelling gridlock, with serious safety concerns and hardship for motorists and residents.”
He stressed that no person, association, or religious group has the right to close major or inner roads for events, noting that doing so disrupts both vehicular and pedestrian movement.
As part of preventive measures, TRACE has directed event centres and organisers in densely populated areas to arrange adequate parking for their guests.
Akinbiyi warned that anyone found blocking roads will face strict sanctions, while event centres that violate the directive risk being shut down.

He added that the agency will increase surveillance, boost operational visibility, and implement proactive traffic management strategies to curb illegal parking, prevent road obstructions, and eliminate traffic violations during the yuletide.
The TRACE commander also urged residents and event organisers to obtain necessary approvals, make proper logistical arrangements, and cooperate with TRACE personnel and other relevant agencies to ensure a safe and congestion-free festive season.
He assured the public of TRACE’s commitment to maintaining free traffic flow across the state’s 18 major traffic corridors.
