Tai Solarin Federal University of Education (TASFUED) is set to graduate 4,785 students at its 17th convocation ceremony, including 40 graduates who earned First Class honours.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adekunle Adeogun, disclosed this while speaking ahead of the event. He praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s education initiatives, saying they have helped prevent students from dropping out of school due to financial challenges.
According to him, a total of 6,251 students have benefited from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) programme across the last and current academic sessions. He added that ₦700 million was disbursed to 4,210 students in the current session alone.
Prof. Adeogun encouraged students to continue taking advantage of the programme, noting that it has eased the burden of school fees for many families.
He also announced that the university has introduced 12 new academic programmes, including Entrepreneurship Education, Land Transport Planning and Management, Physics and Electronics, and Software Engineering.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, is expected to deliver the convocation lecture.
Providing a breakdown of the graduating students, the Acting Vice-Chancellor said 40 students will graduate with First Class honours, 1,466 will receive Second Class Upper, 2,768 will earn Second Class Lower, while 269 part-time students and 88 students from the Nigerian Army College of Education (NACOE) will also graduate.
As part of the convocation activities, the Visitor to the University will commission a new Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre and a lecture hall built with support from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
The university will also confer honorary doctorate degrees on three prominent Nigerians: the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who will receive a Doctor of Science in Education (Childhood Education); Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, who will receive a Doctor of Science in Education (Education Management); and former Ogun State Governor, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, who will be awarded a Doctor of Science in Education (Political Science).
Prof. Adeogun described the 17th convocation as a celebration of progress and national recognition, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to remaining a leading university of education in Africa.
