Nobel laureate, Prof Vole Soyinka, yesterday warned employees of the Southwest Security Network, code-named Amotekun, in Ogun state not to abuse their power.

“If you (Amotekun) abuse your uniform before the Ogun (iron god) hits you, we will definitely take care of you,” said Soinka.

He recalled the opening of the State Amotekun Corps which took place at the Arcade Ground in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The popular playwright and poet accused the corps of distinguishing itself from other security agencies and not misusing its uniform to violate human rights.

Soyinka, who was nicknamed “Super Marshal of the Amotekun Corps” by Governor Dapo Abiodun, also warned other security agencies not to engage in “stupid” competition with the corps, but “to meet and work with them in their ranks.” “.” “

“I want the security services to understand that this is not your substitute, you are too jealous of your position, your uniform and everything, and where there has to be cooperation there is competition, that’s stupid.

Let us now go beyond that and realize that this unity is only meant to complement what you are already doing adequately, that is, for those of us who need protection, as far as possible is not sufficient as we feel.

“They (Amotecun) were created to help them (security agencies) protect them, be a part of them, live in them, gather information, tell the police, the military, we can’t handle it, but we saw that, would you like to take a look and help ?

“You (Amotecun Corps) are not here because you already have a uniform to act like some of the other security agencies do less … You have to set an example to say you are a civilian entity.

“So, Amotecun, we are watching you.” If you have abused your uniform before it has hit you, we will take care of you. “

In his remarks, Governor Abiodun revealed that the delay in installing equipment in the country was caused by a comprehensive and comprehensive need so that the public could participate in the decision-making process that affected them.

He noted that the security challenges facing the country and the nation as a whole require the cooperation of all Nigerians, especially security agencies, who must work in harmony and not be in unnecessary competition.

Abiodun said staff had been carefully selected, trained and provided with the necessary logistics, technical support and political will for an effective launch and operation. He said the country expected nothing but the best from them.

The governor insisted that the corps was acting according to the laws that established it and ordered them to use their influence by cooperating with other security agencies to protect life and property.
Abiodun, deploring the insecurity caused by clashes between farmers and herders that resulted in deaths in parts of the state, said no part of Ogun would under any circumstances be a haven for criminals and criminals.

He said: “Any property that turns out to be a criminals’ hideout will not only be taken over by the government but also destroyed. Anyone who hides a kidnapper, ritualist, robber or other criminal will be arrested and turned over to the appropriate law enforcement agencies.”
