The Ogun State Government has announced that the reconstruction and dualisation of the Iperu–Ilishan Road has reached its final stage, with asphalt works now in progress.
In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, the government said engineers have begun laying binder and wearing course asphalt on sections of the 5.3-kilometre road.
The statement noted that the project has moved beyond earthworks, drainage construction and stone-base layers, marking a major milestone in the reconstruction process.
The government explained that the road, which connects Iperu to Ilishan, serves as a key route to the Gateway International Airport and the Sagamu–Benin Expressway.
It added that significant progress has been made, including the completion of major drainage systems and stabilised base courses to ensure the long-term durability of the road.
According to the government, once completed, the project is expected to improve mobility, enhance road safety, reduce travel time and boost commercial activities for communities along the corridor and airport-bound travelers.
The statement also linked the project to the state’s wider infrastructure plan, saying that the completion of both the Iperu–Ilishan and Sagamu–Sapade roads will make the Gateway International Airport one of the most accessible airports in Nigeria.
The government said the integrated road network is part of its vision to position Ogun State as a major logistics, aviation and investment hub.
It concluded by reaffirming its commitment to delivering a high-quality and durable road that meets top engineering standards and supports the state’s broader economic development agenda.
