The governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has provided an update on the Agro-Cargo Airport project in Ogun State. According to his statement, the airport, located along Ilisan-Iperu road in the Ikenne Local Government Area of the state, is expected to be ready for commercial flight operations by December.

Governor Abiodun also mentioned that the state government is in the process of recouping all expenses incurred on the project through concessions. He stated that various international aviation companies are interested in operating the airport under concessional agreements, and the concessioning process is expected to be completed within the next 30 to 45 days.

The governor expressed confidence that the airport would be granted full approval for commercial operations by the end of November or December. He indicated that once operational, the airport would provide domestic and international flight services, with flights to cities like Abuja and Port Harcourt, as well as the potential for international flights.

Governor Abiodun emphasized that the airport project aims to create a truly international facility. The government’s approach was to secure funding for the airport’s construction and then concession it to private operators, effectively “de-risking” the project. This strategy has apparently attracted the interest of international airport operators who are eager to take over the airport and pay the state for the project’s costs.
The governor credited the success of the project to the government’s vision, dedication, and resolute commitment to its completion, despite potential distractions and political challenges.
