Senator Gbenga Daniel (Ogun East) has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the establishment of a naval base and dockyard in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area, describing the move as a major milestone that will boost economic growth and strengthen national security.

He made the remarks on Sunday during the Bola Ahmed Tinubu–Otunba Gbenga Daniel (BATOGD) Mid-term Community Assessment and Review Tour in Abigi, Ogun Waterside. The event was aimed at evaluating government projects, engaging residents, and assessing progress in the area.
The Senator expressed delight that Ogun Waterside is now benefiting from major federal initiatives, including the new Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, which passes through the area. He said these developments reflect President Tinubu’s commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians through strategic infrastructure projects.

According to Daniel, the naval base and dockyard in Ode-Omi will create jobs, attract investment, and spur local development. “We are grateful to President Tinubu for his support and commitment,” he said. “Ogun people will not forget this gesture and will show appreciation in 2027.”
Reflecting on the area’s long-standing development plans, Daniel noted that the land for the naval base was allocated over 50 years ago but had remained unused until now. He linked the current progress to Tinubu’s leadership and renewed federal interest in the region.
He also revealed plans to reactivate the Gateway Industrial and Petro-Gas Institute (GIPI) in Ode-Omi—an institution established during his tenure as governor to train workers for a proposed refinery and seaport project. “Even if the state government couldn’t continue, the Federal Government is ready to help,” Daniel said, citing the federal takeover of Tai Solarin University of Education as an example.
Explaining the scope of the naval project, Daniel said it would be developed in phases, starting with accommodation blocks, administrative offices, and security infrastructure. Later stages would include a naval secondary school and hospital.
“The naval base is more than a military installation—it’s a full-fledged naval city that guarantees security and drives development wherever it is located,” Daniel said. “We must continue to support President Tinubu so that these projects can be fully realized. He truly means well for Nigeria.”
