Nollywood has broken a Guinness World Record after more than 51,000 people gathered at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos to watch the crime thriller, Black Market, on Saturday.
The record was achieved on Saturday at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, where thousands of movie lovers gathered to watch the crime thriller.
The Guinness World Records confirmation was announced during the event, with an official confirming that more than 51,000 people had attended the screening.
FilmOne, the distributor of the movie, also announced the achievement on its social media platforms.
“51,000+ people. One screen. One moment that just made history,” the company stated.
The distributor added that the event had officially set a world record for the largest audience gathering for a movie screening.
The screening was organised as an attempt to break the Guinness World Record, with organisers targeting an audience of at least 50,000 people at a single location.

The gates opened at 2pm, while the red-carpet session began at about 3pm. The main screening was scheduled to take place between 7pm and 8:30pm.
The event attracted a large crowd, with long queues reported around the Tafawa Balewa Square and the TBS roundabout as attendees arrived ahead of the screening.
The programme also featured music, food, games and appearances by celebrities and other personalities.
Among those spotted at the event were the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, who arrived at about 8:50pm, as well as actors Gabriel Afolayan, Real Warri Pikin and Tomi Ojo.
Black Market was produced by Rixel Studios, Signet Ring Studios and FilmOne Studios, and distributed by FilmOne.
The film was directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay and produced by Nora Awolowo.
It features Omowunmi Dada, Lateef Adedimeji, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Scarlet Gomez, Teniola Aladese, Susan Pwajok, Ibrahim Yekini, popularly known as Itele D Icon, and Uzor Arukwe, among others.
The crime thriller follows five market women who become involved in a cross-border smuggling operation amid fuel scarcity and economic hardship.
The situation takes a dramatic turn after the daughter of one of the women is kidnapped.
The record-breaking screening was supported by the Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, alongside several corporate partners.
