Fayose Launches Fresh Attack on Obasanjo, Just 48 Hours After Public Reconciliation
Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has reignited his long-standing feud with former President Olusegun Obasanjo—barely two days after the two appeared to reconcile publicly.
The renewed clash comes after both men met at Fayose’s 65th birthday celebration in Lagos on Saturday, where Obasanjo made pointed remarks about Fayose’s past criticisms but announced he had forgiven him.
Obasanjo’s Remarks at Fayose’s Birthday
Speaking at the event, Obasanjo recounted the behind-the-scenes efforts that led to his appearance at the party, noting that Fayose had relied on intermediaries, including former Aviation Minister Osita Chidoka.
“You are not the best of my political children, but you have made achievements that must not be ignored,” Obasanjo said. He narrated how Chidoka first approached him with the invitation and how Fayose later contacted him directly.
Obasanjo also revealed that Fayose remained hesitant to visit him in person and initially sent another emissary, Folusho, before later showing up himself.
He further disclosed how he reprimanded Fayose and his wife during the reconciliation process.
“I told your wife, ‘You and your husband are not Omoluabi.’ She agreed and asked for forgiveness. Once you get that, what else can I do?” Obasanjo stated, adding that Fayose’s milestone age was worth celebrating.
He urged Fayose to also reconcile with others he may have offended and advised him to forgive those who wronged him.
Throughout Obasanjo’s remarks, Fayose stayed silent.
Fayose Fires Back After the Celebration
However, the calm did not last. In a statement released on Monday by Obasanjo’s media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, Fayose reportedly sent the former president a strongly worded “Thank You” message—one that quickly escalated into insults.
In the text, Fayose accused Obasanjo of making “irresponsible comments” at his birthday and used harsh language to describe the former president.
Part of the message read:
“Dear Baba Obasanjo… your comments were very irresponsible for someone your age. You went so low, but I am not surprised… Someone once said you should be kept in a zoo, and sincerely that is where you belong.”
Fayose further claimed Obasanjo was suffering from “the heightened stage of dementia,” adding that he would “set the records straight” at the appropriate time.
He also demanded the return of money he said Obasanjo had admitted receiving.
Obasanjo Responds Briefly
Obasanjo replied in a short message, saying:
“Ayo, thanks for your ‘Thank You’ message which clearly revealed who and what you are—unchanged and unchangeable. Your money has been sent back through Foluso Adeagbo, who delivered it, in the same unopened bag.”
