The Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council (AIAC) has reconciled with the Olisa of Ijebu-Ode, High Chief Rasheed Adesanya, resulting in the withdrawal of a court case previously filed against the council.
The reconciliation was reached during a meeting at the Awujale’s palace, where the Olisa met with AIAC members led by the Ogbeni Oja of Ijebuland, Dr. Sunny Kuku.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting, Dr. Kuku said the resolution was the outcome of several engagements aimed at promoting peace, unity, and development in Ijebuland.
He confirmed that the case filed by the Olisa at the Ijebu-Ode High Court had been formally withdrawn.
According to the communiqué, the Olisa extended “a hand of fellowship” to the council and expressed his readiness to work harmoniously with the AIAC.
He also pledged full cooperation to ensure a transparent and credible transition process toward selecting the next Awujale of Ijebuland.
The AIAC described the reconciliation as a major step toward strengthening unity and reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive engagement with key stakeholders throughout the transition period.
Speaking after the meeting, High Chief Adesanya said he was satisfied with the reconciliation efforts and promised to work closely with the council to ensure a peaceful transition leading to the emergence of a new Awujale.
The Chairman of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Mr. Dare Alebiosu, welcomed the development, noting that the unified position of all parties would support the smooth completion of the transition process.
Meanwhile, Chief Adesanya has refuted a social media publication claiming he referred to himself as “Alaiyeluwa Oba” and disowned decisions reached at the Awujale’s palace.
Addressing journalists at his palace, he described the circulating claims as fake, misleading, and harmful to the unity of Ijebu’s traditional leadership.
He said the false report was brought to his attention by Chief Lekan Osifeso, who alerted him to online posts suggesting he opposed the AIAC’s resolutions.
Adesanya emphasized that he had not granted any interview since the meeting and could not have issued such a statement.
“I was surprised when Chief Osifeso showed me the news on social media claiming I rejected the decisions made at the Awujale’s palace. This is completely untrue. I want to state clearly that the communiqué did not come from me,” he said.
He stressed that any publication without his official signature should be disregarded, insisting that no message from his palace is valid without his authorization.
“The publication is not from me, nor did it originate from the Olisa’s palace. If you see any document I did not sign, please ignore it,” he warned.
Reaffirming his loyalty to the AIAC, Adesanya said he fully supports the decisions reached at the palace and cautioned that false information must not disrupt the unity and stability of the traditional institution during this transitional period.
“I am the Olisa of Ijebu-Ode and the Head of Ilamuren. At no time have I addressed myself as ‘Alaiyeluwa Oba’ in any communiqué circulating online,” he added.
