The Department of State Services (DSS) has detained Pastor Kayode Olawoye, a pastor and community activist who has been speaking out about the poor condition of roads in Ogun State.
Reports say Pastor Olawoye was invited to the DSS office in Abeokuta on Monday for a discussion. This was the third time he had been invited by the security agency. Unlike before, he was not allowed to go home and has been kept in detention.
Many residents are worried about his arrest. They believe it is part of a growing trend of harassing people who criticise the state government under Governor Dapo Abiodun.
Pastor Olawoye is known for helping his community and calling for better roads. In recent weeks, he had increased his campaign, pointing out the bad condition of major roads and how it affects commuters, traders, and residents. He spoke about these issues in church, community meetings, and media interviews.
Some residents say the government does not tolerate criticism. They claim that people who speak out about problems in local governments are often threatened, arrested, or harassed.
Last year, Governor Abiodun was accused of ordering councillors to remove a local government chairman, Wale Adedayo of Ijebu East, from office. Adedayo had reportedly demanded that funds meant for his local government be released so he could carry out development projects.
Adedayo took the matter to court. In December 2025, the court ruled in his favour. The judge said his removal was illegal and politically motivated. He was reinstated as chairman, and the court ordered those responsible to pay ₦30 million in damages.
In another case, the Ogun State Police charged a popular social media blogger, Adetoun Onajobi, also known as @justadetoun, with cybercrime-related offences. The case is now before the Federal High Court in Abeokuta.
The police accused her of spreading false information online and cyberbullying Governor Abiodun. They said her actions violated the Cybercrimes Act.
According to the police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, Onajobi was invited for questioning on January 2, 2026. However, her lawyer replied that she could not attend because she was sick and submitted a medical report.
The police said they investigated the medical report and found it to be fake. They later arrested the doctor whose name was on the report.
During questioning, the doctor allegedly admitted that the report was fabricated and prepared at the request of Onajobi, through a phone call involving her lawyer.
The doctor has now been charged in court for conspiracy, presenting a false document, and trying to obstruct justice.
