ABUJA — The Department of State Services (DSS)https://www.dss.gov.ng/ has released the names of 115 former officers dismissed from the agency and warned Nigerians to be cautious when dealing with anyone claiming to be a DSS operative.
The announcement, published on the Service’s official website on Tuesday, is part of efforts to sanitize the agency and protect the public from impostors using the DSS name to commit fraud.
“As part of ongoing reforms in the Department of State Services (DSS), a total of 115 personnel have been dismissed over a period,” the statement read.
The agency said some of the dismissed officers have continued to pose as serving operatives, prompting the Service to make their names public to prevent unsuspecting Nigerians from being deceived.
“In addition to earlier warnings about Barry Donald and Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, the Service finds it necessary to alert citizens about the fraudulent activities of some dismissed officers still parading themselves as DSS personnel,” the statement added.
The DSS urged Nigerians, government bodies, private organisations, and community leaders to always verify the identity of anyone presenting themselves as a DSS representative before engaging with them officially.
“Members of the public are therefore advised to avoid any official dealings with these individuals who have been dismissed by the Service,” it cautioned.
For transparency, the full list of the dismissed personnel has been published on the DSS website for public access.
The move, according to the Service, is part of a broader reform aimed at strengthening discipline, promoting accountability, and restoring public confidence by stopping impostors from exploiting the agency’s name.
The DSS reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism and urged Nigerians to report any suspicious person claiming to be an operative through official channels.
