Residents of Ijagun Road in Ijebu Ode have appealed to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to urgently replace the vandalized electricity cable that has plunged the community into a two-week blackout.
Officials of the Ijagun Road Community Development Association (CDA), who met with the IBEDC Business Manager, Abdul-Ahmed Yinusa, in Ijebu Ode on Tuesday morning, expressed concern that residents are suffering severe hardship due to the prolonged outage.
According to the CDA, the manager, Abdul-Ahmed Yinusa, informed them that IBEDC does not currently have the required 150mm x 4-core cable — approximately six meters in length — which is essential to restore power. Although the company reportedly has some of the other materials needed, the critical cable remains unavailable.
Residents fear the blackout is worsening water scarcity, crippling small businesses, and exposing the community to insecurity and health risks. There is also growing tension among youth in the area as the situation persists.
The CDA is calling on IBEDC’s headquarters and relevant government authorities to intervene swiftly.
