Mowe Community in Ifo Local Government of Ogun State is lamenting the Ogun State Government’s act of giving only one bag of rice to over 200 houses to share as subsidy palliative.
The Chairman of the Mowe Community Development Association (CDA) in Ogun State, Timothy Agboola, expressed dissatisfaction with the portion of palliative aid provided to his community.
In a video circulating on social media, Agboola displayed a bag of grains that had been allocated to his community of more than 200 households. He voiced his concern about how to fairly distribute the aid among all the households in his jurisdiction. He remarked, “The houses under me are more than 200. I don’t even know how to distribute this to reach everyone in my CDA. They will later say they distribute palliative, this is not a palliative because I don’t even know how to present it to my CDA members. I am showing this to the general public because they may later say they used billions of naira to buy palliative. I don’t know how they want me to distribute this palliative.”

The palliative aid had been provided by the government to alleviate the economic hardships resulting from the removal of the fuel subsidy. TIB confirmed this by sharing a photograph of the food packaging labeled “Badagry West LCDA, Fuel Subsidy, Palliative Initiative Package,” and added that this supposed palliative would not adequately address the socio-economic challenges facing Nigerians in recent times.
The group stated, “Distributing a few cups of garri as subsidy palliatives to Nigerians is not only unfortunate, but it is also a direct insult to the sensibilities of the Nigerian people. How do a few cups of garri address the problem of increased transportation costs? How does it tackle the challenge of unaffordable food prices? How does this mitigate the issue of increasing poverty and unprecedented hardship resulting from subsidy removal? President @officialABAT is treating Nigerians as if they were a conquered people. It’s only a matter of time before he provokes them to take to the streets.”
