We’ll not tolerate acts of aggression against Muslims – League of Imams

The League of Imams and Alfas in Ogun State issued a warning against the infringement on the rights of Muslims to perform their spiritual obligations by suspected traditionalists. The group includes prominent religious leaders in the state, such as Shaykh Sikirullahi Babalola, Shaykh AbdulRazaq Ayanbadejo, Shaykh Sa’adallah Bamigbola, and Shaykh AbdulQuadri Jinadu.

They expressed their concerns at the Egba Central Mosque in Abeokuta and urged the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, to intervene in the matter due to alleged incessant attacks and threats from traditionalists.

In addition to addressing religious issues, the communique issued by the League of Imams and Alfas touched upon broader social and political matters:

1. The group acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to address economic challenges and political issues in the country, including the removal of fuel subsidy. However, they called on the President to find practical and realistic ways to provide relief to the impoverished Nigerian masses, especially in terms of meeting basic needs like food.
2. They urged the government to investigate the subsidy issue thoroughly and prosecute any corrupt individuals involved. They also suggested that the profits from subsidy removal should be reinvested in the country’s infrastructure and used to create jobs for unemployed youths.
3. The state governments, including Ogun State under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun, were called upon to ensure the fair distribution of subsidy palliatives to benefit the general population.
4. Specifically, the League of Imams and Alfas in Ogun State urged Governor Dapo Abiodun to exercise fairness in the constitution of his cabinet during his second term, including the appointment of state commissioners and the composition of various boards and agencies within the state government.

In summary, the communique addresses a range of issues, from religious freedom and security concerns to economic and political matters affecting the Muslim community in Ogun State, Nigeria.
