The Ogun State Police command reported on Saturday that its officers have apprehended three individuals, namely Amusa Kazeem, Oke Oladipupo, and Johnson Oluwole, for their involvement in the theft of the royal crown and staff of office that belonged to the late Olu of Ogunmakin, Oba Olugbenga Shodiya, who passed away approximately two months ago.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the State command, SP Omolola Odutola, the trio of Kazeem, Oladipupo, and Oluwole allegedly broke into the residence of the late royal figure on October 12th, around 2 am, with the intention of stealing the valuable crown and staff of office.
The statement explained, “On the 12th of October 2023, intelligence was received from the Palace of his Royal Majesty, the late Ogunmakin, indicating that Amusa Kazeem, Oke Oladipupo, and Johnson Oluwole conspired and stole the Royal Crown and Staff of Office two months after the passing of King Ogunmakin.”
The suspects were believed to have gained entry into the residence around 8 pm, where the late king’s possessions were stored. They managed to obtain the key, which was in the custody of the individual responsible for safeguarding the royal artifacts, and subsequently removed the Royal Crown and the Staff of Office of the late King. This act has been described as an abomination, given the significance of these items in the traditional and cultural context.
