A tailor in Sagamu, Ogun State, Mr. Saheed Oyewole, lost four sewing machines worth about N940,000 and several other items after robbers broke into his shop early Sunday morning.
The robbery happened on Aina Obey Street, Ajaka, in Sagamu Local Government Area. The thieves took away the sewing machines and customers’ clothes kept in the shop.
Confirming the incident on Monday, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, CSP Omolola Odutola, said the police had started investigating the case and promised to catch those responsible.
Odutola said, “At about 9:40 a.m., Mr. Oyewole came to the Sagamu Divisional Police Headquarters to report that a neighbour had called him earlier around 7:40 a.m. to inform him that his shop had been burgled. He said the stolen items included three sewing machines worth N540,000, one industrial sewing machine worth N400,000, and several customers’ materials whose value is yet to be determined.”
She added that the Divisional Police Officer in Sagamu had visited the scene with a team of officers to assess the damage and was working with local vigilantes to find the robbers and recover the stolen goods.
Odutola also said that the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, had ordered more patrols in the area to prevent similar incidents. The commissioner urged residents to report any useful information through the command’s public channels and advised business owners to strengthen security around their shops and stay alert.
