Mr. Ahmadu Shaibu is now the new Comptroller for the Nigeria Customs Service in Ogun State. He succeeded Bamidele Makinde, who moved to NCS Headquarters in Abuja.
At the handover event in Idiroko, Ogun State, Mr. Shaibu promised to make the state tough for smugglers and assured stakeholders of an open-door policy. He warned smugglers that their actions wouldn’t be tolerated, and wrongdoers would face consequences.
Mr. Shuaibu said, “May I use this medium to assure the business community and our critical stakeholders, that the new administration will operate an open door policy, and strengthen the existing relationship with the Command.
“However, let me sound a note of warning to smugglers and their accomplices, their nefarious activities will not be condoned, and anyone caught in the act, shall be brought to book.”
The outgoing Comptroller, Bamidele Makinde, highlighted his administration’s achievements, including generating N6.6 billion in revenue and seizing contraband goods.
In the 17 months of his tenure, the command made significant seizures, including live ammunition, a large quantity of foreign rice, secondhand clothing, cannabis, and petrol. The total value of these seizures was N6,604,107,655.92.
In terms of revenue, the command generated N225,009,835.50 during this period. Notably, they achieved 91% of their 2023 revenue target, surpassing it by generating N127,122,058.00 three months ahead of schedule.
Bamidele Makinde, the outgoing Comptroller, highlighted the achievements during his tenure, including increased revenue generation and better anti-smuggling efforts. He credited the successes to the support from NCS Headquarters, the dedication of their officers and men, and collaboration with key stakeholders.
Ahmadu Shaibu, the new Comptroller, was previously the Deputy Comptroller of the command. Makinde assumed office on February 9, 2022, and was redeployed to Abuja by the Acting Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, after serving for 17 months in Ogun.
