The Commissioner of Police in Ogun, Mr Abdulmajid Ali, has warned hoodlums and criminal elements to steer clear of the state or face the wrath of the law.

Ali gave the warning when he visited the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, at his palace in Ijebu-Ode on Tuesday.

“I want to let them understand that criminality doesn’t pay so they should change and turn a new leaf.

“I will not allow them, this is certain. I will not allow lawlessness to thrive especially in Ijebu axis.

“We have our men on ground working day and night to put more pressure on hoodlums who refuse to conform to the law, until we rid the state of crime completely.

“I want to assure people of Ogun State that I am here to work and that they should have more confidence in the Nigeria Police.

“I will leave no stone unturned to restore order amidst the spate of wanton kidnapping, ritual killings and cult clashes that have resurfaced in the state recently,’’ he said.

The police boss solicited the support of the monarch and the people of Ogun in the area of information and intelligence gathering to nip crime in the bud.

In his response, Oba Adetona reassured the police commissioner of his support in ridding the state of crime, and pledged to avail the force necessary information to guide their operation.

“Intelligence gathering is very key in the fight against crime, and we the royal fathers, will continue to encourage the people in bringing relevant information to the fore,” Oba Adetona said.

Oba Adetona charged the police to be truthful in its dealings with the people, and said corrupt officials must be whisked out of the police force.

“Police should endeavour to win the confidence of the citizens as they can only be successful by doing this.

“Trial of any apprehended criminal, irrespective of status, must be conclusive to win the people’s confidence.

“We remain optimistic that your tenure would bring peace and sanity again to Ijebuland and Ogun State in general,” Oba Adetona said.
