Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has declared Tuesday, February 3, 2026, a public holiday across the state to mark the 50th anniversary of the creation of Ogun State.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Monday by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, who said the holiday would allow residents to fully participate in activities scheduled for the Golden Jubilee celebrations.
According to the statement, the anniversary marks five decades of Ogun State’s political existence, steady growth, and notable contributions to Nigeria’s national development.
Residents were urged to commemorate the milestone in an atmosphere of unity and peace, as the state government reaffirmed its commitment to building on past achievements and accelerating development for the benefit of all citizens.

Talabi added that Governor Abiodun encouraged residents to take advantage of the public holiday to actively engage in the various events lined up for the celebration.
Ogun State was created on February 3, 1976. The Golden Jubilee programme features a rich array of commemorative activities aimed at reflecting on the past, celebrating the present, and projecting a bold and prosperous future for the Gateway State.
