Nigeria’s national U-23 team Dream Team VI on Sunday beat visiting Congo-Brazzaville U-23 side 2-1  at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State thereby boosting their chances of playing at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Nigeria broke the deadlock early in the second half with a brace through striker Junior Ajayi in the 48th and 54th minutes respectively, before the Congolese reduced the tally in the 67th minute.

The team was fired up by the financial boost of $30,000 promised for each goal by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

Even though the 2-1 result realized in the match does not induce much confidence in their abilities, the team will still be able to draw on the governor’s $60,000 cash reward, having scored two goals against the visitors.

By virtue of the unconvincing result, the Dream Team VI is expected to face a difficult challenge against their Congolese opponents during the second match in two weeks in Brazzaville.
