The Lagos State Government has pledged its backing for the premiere of ‘Black Market’, set for Saturday, 26 September 2026.
The commitment was announced in a post on the government’s official X account on Sunday.
The film’s production team, led by Producer Nora Awolowo, Co-Producer/Executive Producer Omowunmi Dada, and Event Producer Damilola Osikoya, met with the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Toke Benson-Awoyinka, on Thursday, 27 August, to request the Ministry’s support.

According to the organisers, the event is expected to attract around 50,000 people and will attempt to secure a Guinness World Records title for the largest audience at a film screening.
Benson-Awoyinka assured the team of the state’s support, noting that the project fits with government plans to nurture young talent and grow the creative economy.
“Lagos remains Nigeria’s leading hub for entertainment and creativity. We are committed to supporting initiatives that showcase our people’s talents, attract visitors and further strengthen the State’s position as a preferred destination for tourism, arts, culture and entertainment,” she stated.
She noted that the initiative aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus Agenda, which focuses on innovation and youth empowerment.
The Commissioner urged the team to adhere to global standards and liaise with relevant state MDAs to obtain necessary approvals.
Also present at the meeting was Permanent Secretary Mrs Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, who restated the Ministry’s dedication to developing Lagos’ creative sector.
The organisers said the ‘Black Market’ premiere will bring together filmmakers, actors and other industry stakeholders for what they described as a landmark celebration of Nigerian cinema.
