The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He said he was leaving because of the ongoing leadership problems in the party at the national level.
Adeleke shared the announcement on his Instagram page on Monday night. He said he submitted his resignation letter to party officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government, on November 4, 2025.
He wrote:
“Because of the continuous crisis in the national leadership of the PDP, I submitted my resignation letter on November 4, 2025, to the party leaders in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government.
“I thank the party, its members, and supporters for giving me the chance to serve as a Senator and now as the Governor of Osun State.”
Earlier news reports from the PDP in Osun suggested that Adeleke might not contest for a second term under the party in the 2026 governorship election unless the internal issues were settled.
The party leadership had hoped that if the crisis was resolved and officially recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Adeleke might change his mind.
PUNCH Online earlier reported that the PDP said Adeleke might not seek the party’s ticket for the 2026 election. However, the party added that he could return if the problems were resolved within the time allowed by INEC for the Osun election.
