General Lucky Irabor, the Chief of Defence Staff, has reassured Nigerians that the general elections in 2023 will go place despite the country’s growing insecurity.
Nigerians are gravely concerned about whether the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will hold the elections nationwide since terrorists and bandits continue to have a field day despite repeated promises by the Federal Government to address insecurity.
General Irabor, however, stated during a press conference on Tuesday at the defense headquarters in Abuja that the military would make every effort to ensure that nothing would prevent the election from taking place.
The chief of defense reaffirmed the military’s dedication to upholding democracy in Africa’s most populous country.
He asserts that the military is still standing by its commitment to defend Nigeria’s democracy.
The discussion aims to enlist media organizations’ assistance in addressing the nation’s security issues.
The chief of defense staff and executives and editors of media organizations in Nigeria are meeting for the second time in a series.
He also took advantage of the conference to announce the arrest of the suspects in the alleged terror attack on the Saint Francis Catholic Church in Owo two months ago.
Irabor said that the attackers were apprehended during combined operations including the Armed Forces, the Department of Security Services (DSS), and the police, albeit he did not specify the quantity of suspects detained.
