In what many analysts said may be a dress rehearsal for Nigeria’s performance in next year’s World Cup in Russia, the Super Eagles stunned football superpowers Argentina 4-2 in an international friendly played in Russia.
The Super Eagles came from behind, 0 – 2, to hand over a memorable defeat to the Messi-less Argentines.
Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi and Leicester’s Kelechi Iheanacho were superb on the attack, with Kelechi reducing the deficit with a curled free-kick just before the break.
The Eagles came back in the second half even more determined and put three goals behind the Argentine goalie.
Iwobi had a brace scoring in the 52nd and 73minute, the second via a well-placed pass by Ahmed Musa, who came in for Kelechi. Brian Idowu scored Nigeria’s fourth goal in the 54th minute.
The Argentine ace striker Messi did not come for the match.
