The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced plans to upgrade the Ogun State Cooperative College to award National Diploma and Higher National Diploma certificates.
Governor Abiodun made this known this midweek during the 2026 International Day of Cooperatives celebration organised by the Ogun State Cooperative Federation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Community Development and Cooperatives, in Ijebu-Ode.
The governor said the proposed upgrade of the college would improve professional training in cooperative management and produce skilled personnel to strengthen the sector.
He explained that over five hundred million naira had been disbursed to cooperative societies through the state’s revolving loan scheme adding that another five hundred million naira, had been provided through the Oko ‘Owo’ Irinse Dapo Soft Loan Initiative to support artisans, traders and small business owners across the state’s twenty local government areas.
The governor therefore pledged to provide land for cooperative societies to undertake agricultural production and housing projects, as part of efforts to boost food security and improve access to affordable housing.
He urged cooperative members to embrace accountability, unity and sound business practices to ensure that government support benefits the intended recipients.
Calling on the residents to support all the candidates of All Progressives Congress, APC during the forthcoming elections to consolidate on the achievements of his administration, governor Abiodun expressed optimism that the proposed Ogun Deep Seaport would attract investments, create jobs and stimulate commercial activities when completed.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Honourable Ademola Balogun reveales that the state had about fourteen thousand, seven hundred registered cooperative organisations contributing to economic and social development.
The commissioner commended the governor for supporting cooperative societies and urged beneficiaries to use the loans judiciously to expand their businesses.
The President of the Ogun State Cooperative Federation, Alhaji Wasiu Olaleye, commended the state government for the five hundred million naira revolving loan scheme called for the upgrading of the Cooperative College at Shasha, Iperu-Remo, to offer National Diploma and Higher National Diploma programmes.
