The former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Engr. Bayo Dayo, has revealed that he left the party he led for eight years due to what he described as indiscipline and lawlessness within the party. Engr. Dayo stated that he decided to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) because of the leadership qualities of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the commendable efforts of Governor Dapo Abiodun since assuming office in May 2019.
Engr. Dayo made this disclosure during his defection to the APC at a Ward 3 meeting held at St. Matthew Anglican Primary School, Ojowo, Ijebu Igbo, the headquarters of Ijebu North Local Government. He expressed his inability to continue in a party that lacked discipline, citing instances of governors crossing party lines without caution.
He said, “PDP is now a party of no discipline where five governors are putting their legs in many political parties without caution. I no longer want to be a member of such a party where the leaders cannot discipline themselves.”
Describing his defection as a reunion with old political allies, Engr. Dayo explained that he has known Governor Abiodun for a long time. He praised the leadership of President Tinubu and Governor Abiodun for their commitment to good governance and development.
Engr. Dayo highlighted the administration’s achievements, including the construction of roads that were abandoned for over 10 years. He emphasized his grassroots political orientation and expressed confidence that his followers would not regret the decision to join the APC.
The Secretary to the Government, Hon. Tokunbo Talabi, welcomed Engr. Dayo and his supporters into the APC, considering it a significant addition to the party’s strength in Ijebu North Local Government and the state. Talabi praised Engr. Dayo’s political experience and expressed optimism about the positive impact of the move on the party in the coming year.
Chieftains of the APC, including Hon. Adegbesan, Alhaji Ademola Balogun, and Chief Laide Osifeso, among others, were present at the event, which marked the beginning of Engr. Dayo’s political journey with the APC.
