The second edition of the Tobi Amusan/Abiola Onakoya Ijebu Sprint and Relays Meet will see young athletes from various parts of Ogun State gathering at the Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu-Ode.
Tobi Amusan, fresh from winning a Diamond League trophy in the 100m hurdles, is set to return to Nigeria in November to organize the second edition of the Tobi Amusan/Abiola Onakoya Ijebu Sprint and Relays Meet. This event will provide young athletes from all over Ogun State with the opportunity to showcase their talents.
Amusan and Abiola Onakoya, both products of youth development programs in Ogun State, received scholarships to study in the United States and represented Team Nigeria at various levels. They are now determined to give back to their community by creating opportunities for the younger generation of athletes.
The second edition of the Tobi Amusan/Abiola Onakoya Ijebu Sprint and Relays Meet has received support from Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State. Tobi Amusan was named Ogun State Youth Ambassador by Governor Abiodun after she broke the 100m hurdles record and won the gold medal at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene.
Amusan’s remarkable achievements in athletics, especially her grassroots contributions, and her historic gold medal win at the World Athletics Championships, earned her the ambassadorial role.
Unlike the first edition, which was confined to Ijebu-Ode, the second edition of the Tobi Amusan/Abiola Onakoya Ijebu Sprint and Relays Meet is endorsed by the Ogun State Government and will include schools from across the state.
In addition to certificates and medals, the winners of this edition will receive spike shoes, canvas, and other items. Prizes will also be awarded to the winning schools.
