Nigerian Yoruba actress Jumoke Odetola, 38, has announced that she has answered God’s call to become a minister.
The actress known for her roles in Yoruba films, made the revelation in a post shared on her Instagram page on Saturday.
The award-winning actress said she made the announcement after concerns from fans, colleagues and family members about her recent social media posts.
She wrote, “Jumoke, your recent posts… Are you okay? Is everything alright? I truly appreciate the numerous calls, messages & concerns of my friends, family, colleagues. Thank you so much. I feel seen, cared for and loved. Yes, something is going on in my life… but nothing is wrong with me.”
Odetola said she had received numerous calls and messages from people concerned about her well-being. She said she is embracing a new chapter centred on her faith and ministry.
“I am entering a new season with God. I am now a minister of God. I am now a preacher of the gospel. Yes! You heard right! A minister,” she stated.
The award-winning actress explained that although she initially intended to keep the journey private, she decided to share it publicly to prevent speculation.
“I have been contemplating whether I should be private about it, but how can I be private about preaching the gospel when you could just see me on your street with my bell preaching the gospel. Let me bring myself out before anyone records me & brings me out.” He said.
Odetola has received several honours for her work in Nollywood. She won the Revelation of the Year award at the 2015 Best of Nollywood Awards. At the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, she won Best Indigenous Language Film for her roles in Binta Ofege and Somewhere in the Dark, retaining the award at the fifth edition for Somewhere in the Dark.
She also won Best Actress in a Leading Role (Yoruba) at the 2017 Best of Nollywood Awards in Ogun State. In the same year, she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress (Yoruba) at the City People Movie Awards.
She added “I need all the prayers in this season. When God compels you, you may delay, but you cannot escape the call.”
In 2026, she was honoured by her alma mater, Ajayi Crowther University, during a distinguished personality lecture held at the institution in Oyo State.
