The Kano State Police Command has arrested three key suspects linked to the brutal killing of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano.
In a statement released on Sunday, the police said the arrests were made after intelligence-led operations ordered by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun. The operation was carried out under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police in Kano State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, explained that the suspects were arrested during an overnight sting operation.
He said police operatives acted on credible intelligence and successfully arrested the three suspected masterminds behind the murder.
The suspects were named as Umar Auwalu, 23, from Sabuwar Gandu Quarters; Isyaku Yakubu, also known as Chebe, 40, from Sagagi Quarters; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, popularly called Wawo, 21, from Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters.
Police disclosed that Umar Auwalu, who is believed to be the leader of the group and a nephew of the deceased, confessed to planning the attack. During questioning, he also admitted that the group had carried out other violent crimes in recent times, including the killing and burning of two housewives in Tudun Yola Quarters.
Items recovered from the suspects include blood-stained clothes, two mobile phones belonging to the victims, a cutlass, a local club known as gora, and some cash suspected to have been taken from the crime scene.
The police said the recovered items are important to the investigation, which is still ongoing.
The Command praised the officers involved in the operation and thanked members of the public for their support and cooperation. It also assured residents of Kano State that all those involved in criminal activities would be brought to justice.
