The Ogun State Government, led by Governor Dapo Abiodun, has said that many of the bad roads in the state were already in poor condition before he took office. The government promised to continue fixing roads and bringing development to all parts of the state.
The governor’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, said in a statement on Tuesday that the government is currently repairing four major highways in Ifo, Sango Ota, and Idiroko areas.
According to him, the damaged roads in Sango-Ota had been like that for many years before Governor Abiodun came into power in 2019. He explained that these roads are part of the large number of bad roads the present government inherited.
Akinmade also said that the state is fixing both state and federal roads. He mentioned that the 140-kilometre Abeokuta–Lagos Expressway and the Sango–Idiroko Road, which are federal roads, are being repaired by the state government.
He dismissed claims that the government was ignoring some areas, explaining that the Ota–Itele–Lafenwa Road (about 24 kilometres long) has already been included in the 2026 budget before people started complaining on social media.
The statement also listed some roads already completed in the Ifo and Ado Odo–Ota areas, including Ikorita Meta, Adenrele/Olose Titus Vespa Road, Olusegun Osoba Road, Toyin Road, Agbado Road, and Sango–Ota–Oke Aro–Ojodu Abiodun Road, among others.
Akinmade said these projects show Governor Abiodun’s commitment to developing all parts of Ogun State as quickly as possible, within the available time and resources.
He also warned residents to be careful about false claims made by opposition politicians who try to make the government look bad.
“While the people have the right to ask for good governance, they should not be misled by those trying to twist facts for political reasons,” Akinmade added.
