Your Service Year Is Crucial To National Development

Corps members have been charged to use their unique service year responsibly by using their knowledge, creativity and innovative ideas towards building a more prosperous, peaceful and united Nigeria.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, made this known at the formal opening and swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 NYSC Batch C, Stream 1 Orientation Course, at the Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu.

The Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon Wasiu Isiaka, maintained that the State had been fully committed to fostering an environment where young people could thrive and realize their full potentials, saying the Building Our Future Together Agenda, prioritized youth empowerment and human capital development through several deliberate initiatives.

He submitted that the formal induction marked the beginning of transformative journey that would challenge them to grow beyond comfort zones, broaden their horizons and prepare them for greater responsibilities in life.

He stated further that through the NYSC, young Nigerians were exposed to diverse cultures, traditions and perspectives, thereby fostering unity, mutual understanding and patriotism.

“I encourage you to see your service year as an opportunity to make a positive impact in host communities. Be agents of change, identify problems and provide innovative solutions, demonstrate leadership, compassion and commitment to community development”, the Governor said.

Earlier, the State Coordinator, Mrs Frances Adewuyi, advised the Corps members to make good use of their service year, as it remained temporary, while they should strive to make lasting impact that would be permanent.

“You will meet people whose languages you do not speak, whose meals you have never tasted and whose faith you may not be familiar with. Do not merely tolerate them, learn from them. Our diversity is not a weakness to be managed; it is the foundation of a stronger Nigeria”, she said.

A total number of 2, 913 Corps Members were sworn in, comprising 1, 274 male and 1, 639 females.
