When a Mazda bus carrying them caught fire, seven passengers on a 16-seater bus were burned beyond recognition.
The lone accident happened just a few meters from the Odogbolu interchange on the Sagamu-Benin expressway.
They were on their way to Vanguard Academy in Odosengolu, near Ijebu-ode, Ogun State, for a four-day training program called the Al-Mu’minaat Training Forum (ATF).
The annual training program was organized by the national organization Al-Mu’minaat (The Believing Women).
The AGL 886 YD bus exploded with flames coming from the engine side.

Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesman for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), confirmed the accident.
He stated that seven females had burns and seven other females had been burned beyond recognition.
“The lone fatal crash was coming from the Kosofe area of Lagos when it’s engine suddenly caught fire due to engine overflow (over float).
“The number of passengers in the commercial bus was 15, out of which seven females were burnt to death, while the remaining seven were seriously burnt and taken to Ijebu-Ode General Hospital for treatment. However, the driver of the bus escaped.
“The Mazda bus had been taken to Odogbolu Motor Traffic Division of the Nigeria Police,” Akinbiyi stated.
He expressed condolences to the families of the deceased, wished the injured a speedy recovery, and urged motorists to maintain their vehicles on a regular basis, as well as perform daily routine checks on the vehicle before embarking on a journey.
Alhaja Nimatallah AbdulQadri, the National Amirah (President) of Al-Mu’minaat, described the incident as shocking and sad.
Some people with fractures have been taken to the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Igbobi, she said.
Alhaja AbdulQadri prayed to Allah to grant Al-Jannah Firdaus to those who died (Paradise).
While commiserating with the victims and families of the deceased, she stated that the entire organization is with them during this difficult time.
