Abigel Bankole, a lady, allegedly killed her 65-year-old neighbour, Oladega Morenike, while fighting in Ipokia, Ipokia Local Government Area, in the state.
Bankole was accused of pushing Morenike during the struggle, causing her head to hit the wall and collapse.
SP Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the State Police Command, confirmed this in a statement made available to journalists in Abeokuta, the state capital.
Odutola reported that the event occurred approximately 4:20 p.m on Thursday.
She stated that the police learnt of the terrible incident after one of the deceased’s children, Ibrahim Oladega, filed a report about it.
Odutola stated that the perpetrator has already fled, but attempts are underway to apprehend her, while the deceased’s body has been deposited at the mortuary of the General Hospital in Ilaro for autopsy.
The statement partly reads, “On November 21, 2024, at about 6:20 PM, Ibrahim Oladega, a resident of Isunba Street in Ipokia, reported an incident at the police station.
“He stated that earlier that day, around 4:20 PM, his mother, 65-year-old Oladega Morenike (now deceased), had an argument with a neighbour, Abigel Bankole.
“This confrontation escalated into a fight during which the deceased was pushed, causing her to hit her head against a wall and collapse.
“Upon receiving the report, detectives were dispatched to the scene, where they found the victim lying on her back.
“A photograph was taken, and her body was transported to the General Hospital in Ipokia, where she was pronounced dead by a doctor.
“The body was subsequently moved to the mortuary at General Hospital, Ilaro, for an autopsy.
“The suspect fled the scene and is currently at large, with active efforts underway to apprehend her.
“Preliminary investigations are ongoing, and the case will be transferred to the SCID in Abeokuta for further investigation.”.
