The host of the Brekete Family human rights programme, Ahmed Isah, popularly known as “Ordinary President,” has praised Lieutenant A.M. Yerima, a naval officer, for his calm and respectful conduct during a recent clash with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and some FCT Administration officials.
During his live show on Wednesday, Isah called on Minister Wike or President Bola Tinubu to apologize for the way Wike spoke to Lt. Yerima during the incident.
He said, “Let’s be honest with ourselves — it’s not democracy keeping Nigeria together, it’s the military. If the military decides to withdraw its support, the country will collapse. I don’t support soldiers intimidating civilians, but I also won’t support anyone disrespecting the military.
“What happened yesterday was wrong. That soldier, Lt. Yerima, represented President Tinubu and all Nigerians. Wike disrespected him, and nobody around Wike could correct him. I expected Wike to apologize immediately, but he still hasn’t. Lt. Yerima showed real discipline and self-control. Nigerians should appreciate him.”
Isah added, “Lieutenant Yerima handled the situation with respect and professionalism. He made the Nigerian military and Nigerians proud. We demand an apology from Wike. If he won’t apologize, then President Tinubu should do it on his behalf. Those close to Wike should advise him; this arrogance is too much. Look at El-Rufai today — where is he now?”
According to DAILY POST, the confrontation happened on Tuesday when military personnel led by Lt. Yerima stopped Wike and FCTA officials from entering a piece of land in Abuja.
Wike reportedly got angry and demanded to see the land’s documents. He also accused the soldiers of blocking officials from doing their work.
However, Lt. Yerima calmly told the minister that he was acting on orders from his superiors and advised Wike to take up the matter with them.
