Ganiyu Shina, 49, of Oguji Street, Obantoko, Abeokuta, was arrested by men from the Ogun State Police Command for bathing in blood at a community river in the Kotopo area of Odeda Local Government. He claimed he was instructed to do so by a herbalist.
Members of the community spotted the suspect at the River bank, where he parked his Nissan commercial vehicle, came out with a local sponge and a container filled with blood, and began bathing with it.
When he realized that people were watching him, he took to his heels, but he was pursued and apprehended by members of the community.
A member of the community called the police at Aregbe divisional headquarters, and the DPO, SP Bunmi Asogbon, quickly led the patrol team to the scene, where the suspect was brought to the station.
During interrogation, the suspect claimed to have a spiritual problem and that he was instructed to perform the ritual by a herbalist. He also claimed that the blood in his possession was not human, but cow.
Meanwhile, Lanre Bankole, the State Commissioner of Police, has ordered that the remaining blood be sent to a laboratory for analysis to determine whether it is human blood or not.
The CP also praised members of the community for not taking the law into their own hands, assuring them that the suspect would be thoroughly investigated.
