Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has characterized his triumph at the State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal as a victory not only for himself but also for democracy, the rule of law, and the judiciary.
Governor Abiodun made these remarks in response to the Tribunal’s decision to uphold his victory in the March 18 governorship election. In a unanimous ruling by the three-man panel, led by Hamidu Kunaza, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu’s petition was dismissed on grounds of “lack of merit.”
The governor expressed his gratitude, saying, “This is the day the Lord has made. We thank and give all the glory to the Almighty God for this judgment and for not allowing us to be put to shame.”
He went on to congratulate his supporters and the people of Ogun State on their second gubernatorial electoral victory, which had been meticulously affirmed by the Ogun Governorship Election Tribunal. Governor Abiodun stressed their unwavering trust in God and their tireless efforts, campaigning extensively throughout Ogun State.

He commended the judiciary, particularly the three tribunal judges, for their transparent, diligent, and thorough dispensation of justice. He also thanked his legal team, led by Chief Olanipekun SAN and Prof Osipitan, as well as other senior advocates and professionals for their professionalism.
The governor acknowledged the support of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its leadership, including Baba Olusegun Osoba and Chief Yemi Sanusi, for providing him with a strong platform and unwavering support. He also expressed gratitude to those who had been present in court throughout the proceedings.
Governor Abiodun extended his appreciation to members of his cabinet, his family, friends, the people of Ogun State, and all well-wishers for their prayers, good wishes, and support throughout the challenging period.
He emphasized that this victory was not just personal but a triumph for democracy, the rule of law, the judiciary, the APC, and Ogun State. He called on the petitioners, who had failed in their attempts, to join hands in implementing the Renewed Hope Agenda for the betterment of the state.
Governor Abiodun assured his commitment to fulfilling all electoral promises made during the campaign, emphasizing that he would govern fairly, justly, equitably, and inclusively for the entire state. He reiterated his pledge to develop all parts of Ogun State without discrimination and promised to work diligently in the remaining three years and eight months of his tenure.
