Tribunal Affirms Yayi As Elected Senator For Ogun West. Said two witnesses presented by the petitioner failed to provide substantial evidence to support their allegations.
The National Assembly Election Petition sitting in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, affirmed the victory of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola as the duly elected Senator for Ogun West Senatorial District in the February 25 National Assembly election.
The Tribunal dismissed the petition filed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Senatorial Candidate, Chief Dada Ganiu Adeleke, who contested the victory of Adeola, commonly known as Yayi.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had initially declared Adeola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the February 25 election.

However, in his petition, marked EPT/OG/Sen/2023, Adeleke implored the Three-man panel, led by Justice Kabir Gabo, to nullify Adeola’s victory, claiming it was invalid and unconstitutional.
In the verdict, Justice Gabo stated that the two witnesses presented by the petitioner failed to provide substantial evidence to support the allegations that the election did not comply with the Electoral Act and constitutional requirements, as well as the manual voting procedure.
The Panel concluded that the petitioner’s request to declare Senator Adeola’s victory null and void, lacking merit, and of no consequence, could not be granted.
Additionally, the Tribunal imposed a fine of N500,000 against the petitioner.
