President Bola Tinubu has offered his condolences to the Ogunbanjo family and the entire Ijebu-Ode community following the passing of their patriarch and elder statesman, Dr. Christopher Oladipo Ogunbanjo, OFR, OON, who made significant contributions as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated corporate lawyers.
In a statement delivered by his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, the President expressed his heartfelt sympathy and stood in solidarity with the family members, colleagues, friends, and well-wishers of the late legal luminary. Dr. Ogunbanjo was mourned as a distinguished figure in Nigeria’s legal and business spheres, whose multifaceted roles as an industrialist, corporate lawyer, and philanthropist had left an enduring mark in these crucial fields. He had also been instrumental in empowering and mentoring numerous professionals both within Nigeria and beyond its borders.
Recognizing Dr. Ogunbanjo’s receipt of several prestigious Chieftaincy titles, including the Olotu of Ijebuland, Larinja of Egbaland, Gbadero of Lagos, Lerinja of Egbaland, Baba Oba of Ijebu Imusin, and Baba Oba of Erunwon Ijebu, President Tinubu paid tribute to his consistent dedication to causes close to his heart. This included grassroots community development and advocating for peaceful coexistence among Nigerians from diverse backgrounds.
The President urged all those mourning the loss of this elder statesman, whose life was characterized by an exceptional commitment to philanthropy and the advancement of the nation, to reflect on the extensive contributions he made to the progress of humanity and to carry forward the ideals he lived by.
“Chief Chris Ogunbanjo will be remembered for his extraordinary life of service to his community and the promotion of best business practices as a corporate lawyer of unblemished reputation. His contributions to Nigeria’s economic development and commercial law practice will endure,” stated President Tinubu.
He concluded by offering prayers for the peaceful repose of Dr. Ogunbanjo’s soul and divine comfort to his family and loved ones during this irreparable loss.
