On Friday night, a collision between a tanker and two cars occurred at Lafenwa area in Abeokuta, Ogun, resulting in the death of four individuals.
Mrs. Florence Okpe, the Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, confirmed the tragedy to reporters on Saturday.
According to Okpe, the tanker driver’s excessive speed was the cause of the accident. The collision involved a BMW car registered as TTD 421 CX, an unregistered Nissan jeep, and a tanker identified as T-15321LA.
“The tanker driver was trying to make a turning at the Lafenwa Roundabout, lost control and rammed into two vehicles and fence of a building.
“The deceased were standing by the fence before they were trapped.
“The content spilled but was quickly transloaded into another truck with the help of fire service and other traffic managers,” Okpe said.
Mrs. Florence Okpe also reported that the Sector Commander of FRSC in the state, Ahmed Umar, expressed his grief and sympathy towards the incident.
“The sector commander is pained over the carelessness of some truck drivers, who refused to consider other road users,” the corps Public Education Officer said.
Okpe further elaborated that the families of the deceased have taken their bodies, likely for burial arrangements. Despite this, she expressed her condolences to the families of the victims and advised them to reach out to FRSC for additional details regarding the accident.
