Ayobami Oyeleye, a 30-year-old man, is presently detained by the Ogun State Police Command following a horrifying incident in which he used a machete to sever both hands of his 65-year-old mother, Esther. The assault occurred on Tuesday in Akibo village, within the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state, reportedly stemming from an undisclosed argument.
The disturbance caused by the incident prompted neighbors to rush out of their homes during the night to investigate the commotion emanating from the elderly woman’s residence. Esther, the victim, was swiftly transported to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
According to a witness, Oyeleye wielded a sharp cutlass during the altercation, brutally severing his mother’s hands and inflicting a deep wound on her head and legs. “With a sharp cutlass in his hand, he severed both hands of his mother and caused another deep injury to her head and legs. We have taken the mother to the hospital for treatment,” the source reported.
Omolola Odutola, the State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident to PUNCH Metro, stating that the suspect had been apprehended, and an active investigation was underway. “The suspect is now in our custody. Our men visited the scene where the cutlass used to carry out the crime was retrieved. Currently, an investigation is ongoing,” the police spokesperson informed PUNCH Metro.
