A member of Ogun State’s Assembly, Hon. Damilare Bello Mohammed, got arrested for his alleged role in a weekend clash between cults in Sagamu. Five suspects, linked to the incident that began on Wednesday and lasted until Sunday, causing multiple deaths, also got apprehended.
The lawmaker, representing Sagamu State Constituency (1), is accused of providing shelter to the fleeing cult members. Acting on a tip-off, a security team, including DSS agents, arrested the suspects at the lawmaker’s place.
Those detained are Debbo Animashaun, Bamidele Saheed, Ismaila Onitire, Adewale Otesanya, and Tobi Owoade. They are currently being questioned at the DSS Headquarters in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State. Sources say dangerous weapons, including guns, were found in their possession.
This incident occurred months after Bello’s earlier arrest by the DSS for allegedly inciting a violent protest in Sagamu against the Central Bank of Nigeria’s naira redesign policy. During that protest, angry youths vandalized approximately 10 banks and other public buildings.
