The popular Cinema Road in Sagamu, Ogun State has be renamed Anthony Joshua Road by Chairman of the Local Government, Gbenga Banjo.
The council boss, Banjo named the road after the World Heavyweight champion on Tuesday.
According to Banjo, the decision to rename the road after the heavyweight champion was made in order to appreciate the making of a Sagamu and Remoland hero.
Joshua, who is a native of the local government is a two time heavyweight champion, having held the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO titles since December 2019 and previously between 2016 and June 2019. At the regional level, Joshua held the British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles from 2015 to 2016.
Among those who have hailed the decision of the Local Government is the Remo Growth and Development Foundation, (RemoGDF).
In a congratulatory message to the Local Government and Joshua’s family, the group appreciated the Local government for renaming the road after the professional boxer.
In a release signed by the group’s Chief Operating Officer, Princess Yemisi Oluwole on behalf of the Chairman Otunba Lawal-Solarin made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, it called on other sons and daughters of Remoland, especially the youths to emulate the sterling virtues of Joshua by being the best in their chosen careers.
The group also encouraged the youths of the council to be law abiding citizens and shun any acts that can lead to social unrest in their communities.
