Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has informed his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart, Atiku Abubakar, that he believes he won the 2023 election and is currently in the Supreme Court to reclaim what he perceives as his rightful mandate. This response comes after Atiku appealed to him to join in the legal battle against President Bola Tinubu during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday.
Atiku had announced his intention to challenge Tinubu over alleged inclusion of forged credentials in the documents submitted by the President to contest the 2023 presidential election at the Supreme Court. In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Obiora Ifoh, Obi clarified that he is also in the Supreme Court to reclaim his allegedly ‘stolen mandate’ from Tinubu.
The statement emphasized that Obi is focused on seeking justice and has consistently advocated for a just nation where integrity and honor prevail in leadership. The Labour Party welcomed anyone interested in joining their pursuit of justice for the nation.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) responded to Atiku’s press conference through its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Felix Morka. The APC criticized Atiku’s address, describing it as lacking purpose and filled with lies and distortions. Morka accused Atiku of displaying desperation and attempting to shamelessly manipulate public sentiments and pressure the Supreme Court.
The APC spokesperson condemned Atiku’s disregard for the highest court by making public comments on a matter submitted for adjudication. Morka highlighted Atiku’s track record as Nigeria’s most prolific election loser and criticized his recent focus on Tinubu’s academic records from Chicago State University as the desperate actions of a rejected presidential aspirant.
Expressing sympathy for Atiku’s unreached presidential aspirations, the APC urged him to gracefully accept defeat and focus on his political journey with dignity. Morka emphasized that President Tinubu is committed to serving Nigerians and will not be distracted by Atiku’s persistent pursuit of an unrealized dream.
