On Sunday, there was a clash between representatives of the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress at the Ogun State collation center for the 2023 governorship election. The conflict began when the PDP agent, Sunkanmi Oyejide, objected to the presence of three agents representing the APC.
In addition, Oyejide accused the APC of deliberately interfering with the PDP’s strongholds in the state, thereby depriving its members of the right to vote.
The PDP agent said, “If you look at it very well, the ruling party disrupted the PDP strongholds and disenfranchised our members.
“We want you to take a critical look at it and investigate it. The process must be transparent.”
Adelani, the APC agent, expressed disagreement with the accusation made by the PDP agent. As a result, the proceedings were temporarily suspended for approximately 15 minutes until order was restored.
During the conflict resolution, Professor Kayode Adebowale, the state Independent National Electoral Returning Officer, instructed the party to select a representative from among the three APC agents present at the venue. Additionally, he criticized the PDP agent’s assertion about strongholds, asserting that proper procedures had been followed.
Adebowale declared, “We don’t recognise strongholds. The rules have been followed.”
The exercise continued as more local government collation officers were presenting the results.
